Snailmate Interview: Tour, Hot Sauce, & Europe

Snailmate is the type of band that makes you stop and say “wait a minute is this for real?” Equal parts comedy, chaos, sincerity and of course, spectacle. A Snailmate show is a one of a kind experience and it’s the kind of things that converts skeptics on the spot and turns a casual listener into a devoted fan instantly. We here at Mad Indie Media have been following along with Snailmate for years now, covering their music video for Donuts in the Rain back in 2021.

Performing over 1,000 shows (that’s right) and counting the band will be taking the Snailmate show to Europe permanently. You only have one more chance to see Snailmate in the United States on Thursday August 13th at the Rebel Lounge on the bands’ home turf in Phoenix Arizona. 

There’s nothing we love more than to see musicians loving what they do; in a jaded world Snailmate brings depth to their performances in the most eccentric ways possible. We sat down (or rather stood up) with Snailmate in the basement of 7th Circle Music Collective in Denver ahead of their performance at Compost Heap Music Festival. We spoke about their music, their relentless touring ethic, their career, and of course, hot sauce.

Snailmate operates in a genre space they’ve essentially carved out for themselves. Snailmate makes music that pulls from synthpunk, grindcore, nerd rap, pop, and a healthy dose of pure absurdist energy. Or in other words, Genre Fluid. 

Their 2026 single I Don’t Feel Good is a perfect encapsulation of everything that makes the project work: raw, absurdist energy turned into music that sounds like it should be playing over early 2000’s quiznos commercial. Other recent notable releases include the 2025 single Masking featuring Myles Bullen which is fairly contrasting to I Don’t Feel Good. The thoughtful, layered and emotionally resonant single shows a different dimension to the band. 

Snailmate has never been a band that fits neatly into any one box, and they’ve never tried to. We love it because, much like life itself, it is weird and unique sometimes concerning and even occasionally frightening. 

Playing over a thousand shows perfectly showcases just how dedicated Snailmate is on their craft. It’s clear that Kalen and Bentley love what they do, that the stage isn’t just where they play but where the music truly comes alive. Their live shows are infamous for their inclusivity and kinetic energy, built on the idea that everyone in the room is part of the experience. 

There’s still time to party with Snailmate once more in Phoenix before the band departs to Europe. Snailmate will play their last US show EVER on August 13th, 2026 at The Rebel Lounge  and if you know anything about this band, you know they’re going to leave EVERYTHING on that stage. This is the kind of show you don’t skip. Whether you’ve seen them a dozen times or never caught them live, August 13th is the night to show up.
