Weekly Feature|Tula Vera – “Gone With The Leaves”

Adored NJ garage-rockers Tula Vera release “Gone with the Leaves” the first of two singles off the band’s long-awaited second EP dropping Summer 2020. The Montclair area band has made an evident name for themselves over the past 4 years by touring the east coast and extensively playing various NJ/NY music clubs including Muchmore’s, Bowery Electric, The Scarlet Pub, and The Saint. Since their first self-titled release in 2017 fans have been eagerly anticipating new music from the 4 piece-modern rockers. Gone With The Leaves details a haunting account of witnessing someone you love struggle with internal conflict; unable to help while simultaneously navigating one’s own negative mindset and harsh emotions. The songs’ unique contemporary-vintage rock sound hooks it’s listeners with interesting colorful riffs over smooth bass and guitar progressions, groovy rounded drums, and cascading hypnotic vocals. The slow dark, bluesy guitar tone paired with resonant, soporific vocals in this song instantly captivates the listener invoking gloomy intimate feelings surrounding a seemingly hopeless situation.

The chorus builds suspense as winding blues leads pour-over lively drums and bass patterns. The verses are filled with tasteful leads and drum accents. Parcells showcases their range throughout this song singing gently, calmly, and chilling then erupting with powerful growls and robust outbursts as the song tension builds and breaks out into a crying guitar solo masterfully crafted by lead guitarist Dylan Drummond. Gone With The Leaves, a song which the band has played live for a few years is the oldest song appearing on the new record. In the video filmed by Matt Pierce, the band can be seen playing to a packed crowd at Jersey City’s FM Bar among shots of other shows and homemade band practice session footage from over the years.
