Endeared NJ Venue The Saint For Sale Amid Covid-19

After hosting an enormous amount of national and local acts for a span of over 25 years, endeared NJ shore venue The Saint in Asbury Park is up for sale. In a woeful post to social media Saturday the venue owners announced sheltering in place due to the Covid-19 outbreak has caused the venue severe economic distress leaving them feeling forced to sell their business. With selling the venue being the only economically viable option, the venue owners made the shocking announcement in a social media post. General Manager Meg Kelly said in a post to Facebook Saturday “we deeply regret this decision and never imagined we would go out like this but can’t think of another way around it”. After not hosting any shows for over a month the owners and operators were left only with the option of selling. As devoted fans jumped to financially support the venue with a campaign. Smashing through their initial goal of $25,000  the organizers, some workers at the saint, have raised their goal to $50,000 in order to save the Saint.

The prodigal outpouring of love and support from fans and musicians to aid the beloved concert space is a testament to the venue’s popularity. In an additional hopeful social media post on Sunday the venue announced a new investor has come forth to support the venue during this difficult time. An investor would allow the current owners to continue business as usual and continue offering wonderful live music 7 nights a week as they have for the past 25 years. The artistic community in NJ shutters at the prospect of losing The Saint; a place that has hosted countless local and national bands including: Incubus, Deftones, The Disco Biscuits, Catch 22, Shadows Fall, Mitski and an expansive list of local NJ indie bands.

We know how important a venue like the saint is for the music community and hopefully this is not the last we will see of the revered quarter-century-old venue. Although it seems the Saint’s Fans will come together and contribute to keep the venue alive, is it uncertain the fate of the long-standing venue.  These uncertain times have been rough for many people especially the music and arts community The Saint has nourished for many years.
