Spirit Bloom – Musician Spotlight

Spirit Bloom, a new progressive rock group in northern New Jersey has recently released their debut self-titled 5 track EP. Formed in 2019 by past members of Monitor & Primal Thesis, 2 popular now-defunct or on hiatus heavy-hitting NJ area bands Spirit Bloom is a technical and ambitious new project. The genre-spanning band draws influences from rock, metal, ambient pop, hip hop, blues, jazz, and world music all of which are apparent in their sound. Combining blissful, soaring melodies and powerful thundering riffs with driving harmonic vocals and dynamic rhythm Spirit Bloom offers a delightfully unique blend of prog-rock.

Spirit Bloom is an awakening musical experience and the collaborative effort of guitarist Brett Salvatore, drummer Salvatore Carollo, and vocalist, Gabriella Santana. Brett is also the creator of the album art. The goal of this band is to “see the flourishing of the Human Spirit, through Music and Art, for those who need it the most and to plant a seed of inspiration for a new world and new humanity”. Their music was created with introspective ideas about growth, life, and love.

Throughout the EP the listener is taken on a musical journey visiting various sounds and rhythms. The band utilizes dissonant riffs combined with melodic vocals, building crescendos, and driving drum patterns. Their Self titled EP was released on May 8th, 2020, and is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, Youtube, and all digital stores. Their Track “Beautiful Lie” is featured on this weeks edition of The Grunge Garage. This release was self-produced in conjunction with engineer Dan Wu who mixed, mastered, and recorded the EP. Since their inception in 2019 the band has been crafting cleverly written progressive rock with a soulful tinge aimed at awakening the spirits of those around them. Spirit bloom is a refreshing coming of age group offing a message of hope in these dark and uncertain times.
