9 More Bands to Support on Bandcamp Friday

Bandcamp has been waiving all fees for artists once a month since the start of the pandemic.

Waiving fees one day a month isn’t exactly going to move the needle on cash flow for many indie musicians, but it continues to put Spotify’s laughable approach towards paying artists to shame. Please use this opportunity to support an artist you care about.

Here is a list of hand-picked bands the Mad Indie Media team has been listening to lately.

The Linda Lindas – Oh!

FFO: Le Tigre, Bratmobile, Against Me!

You might recognize this group of tweenage and teenage rockers from their performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the LA Public Library which went viral in May 2021.

But don’t think that this group is just a flash in the pan; they’re only getting started. Their latest single, “Oh!,” was released on July 21st, 2021, and packs just as much a punch as their viral track.

This punk rock quartet definitely has a bright future.

Doom Scroll – Immoral Compass

FFO: Rail Yard Ghosts, Blackbird Raum, We the Heathens

Doom Scroll
Doom Scroll

Colorado-based supergroup Doom Scroll redefines the “folk-punk” sound with their dynamic new release Immoral Compass.

The gritty, harsh tones are countered by their pop-punk songwriting sensibilities making this release incredibly unique with a signature style all their own. Featuring members of We the Heathens, Broken Bow & Chatterbox & the Latter Day Satanists the group plans to tour and has a few upcoming shows on their schedule.

We are closely watching what this band does and are looking forward to more music videos.

Cutters – Australian War Crimes

FFO: Propagandhi, MDC, The Casualties

Even though toilets flush backward in Australia, this Melbourne-based punk group is always forward-thinking.

Australian War Crimes was released on June 4th, 2021 in light of the recent reports of Australian soldiers committing atrocities in Afghanistan.

The 6-song EP is just as brutal as the name suggests, running through all six tracks in just under ten minutes. Cutters simply doesn’t let up.

Reese Van Riper – Well Runs Dry

FFO: The Bridge City Sinners, The Creepshow, The Goddamn Gallows

Although this track is not yet up on Bandcamp, the latest new single from Reese Van Riper, Well Runs Dry, is a stomping twangy masterful tune full of gravelly vocals, heavy instrumentation and pristine recording quality.

You’ll have to listen to this song on Spotify for the time being but Reese Van Riper has plenty of great music available on Bandcamp, including theri 2020 release Your Dream is Dead.

Halogens – Talking Shit

FFO: Future Teens, Nervous Dater, Michael Cera Palin

NJ based Pop-punk band Halogens release new single Talking Shit via Refresh Records.

Produced by Adam Cichocki this pop punk track delivered all the jersey pop punk aesthetic we can desire making homages to drinking too much & falling and love.

Released on July 13th the track is available for download on bandcamp, simply name your price.

The Muslims – Fuck These Fuckin Fascists

FFO: The Dicks, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys

We may have just included The Muslims on our March Bandcamp Friday roundup, but their newest release, single Fuck These Fuckin Fascists, simply needed to be added to our list.

The lyrics are, well, exactly what you’d expect from the single’s title, with the release’s cover art depicting former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon getting his eye punched out, likely referencing the musician’s claim that “conservatives are the real punks” and his support of Donald Trump’s 2020 election campaign.

The Muslims are one of the best punk bands releasing music today, period.

Indigo De Souza – Hold U

FFO: Kississippi, Girl Pool, Kississippi

Indigo De Souza

The Ashville based indie pop goddess Indigo De Souza has been ramping up for her tour releasing 2 tracks with accompanying videos off her upcoming album Any Shape You Take.

In June Kill Me was released and this past month we were able to enjoy Hold U. We’ve covered Indigo De Souza in some earlier posts, but we just can’t get enough!

Any Shape you Take is set to release August 27th 2021 via Saddle Creek Records and will be available on all streaming platforms.

Laura Stevenson – Laura Stevenson

FFO: Jeff Rosenstock, Phoebe Bridgers, Waxahatchee

Laura Stevenson is one of those rare artists whose work seems to fit in nearly every genre.

With tracks clearly influenced by genres from folk to indie pop to country to hard rock, there really seems to be nothing that Stevenson can’t do.

Lyrically, she touches on topics from the death of a spouse to feeling like a stranger in your own body to simply being excited to be alive.

Her newest album, a self-titled release, came out just today. The album’s first two singles, “State” and “Don’t Think About Me,” have already proved that this album is yet another piece of musical magic; but check out the entire album and see for yourself.

A Great Big Pile of Leaves – Hit Reset

FFO: The World is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, Rozwell Kid, Pine Grove

A Great Big Pile of LeavesPono

Brooklyn based indie pop band A Great Big Pile of leaves tease their upcoming album Pono set to debut August 13th 2021 by releasing 2 singles Hit Reset & Beat Up Shoes.

The latest single hit reset has us extremely excited for what’s to come. This will be the first full album release since the bands 2013 release Your Always on my Mind.
