Talk Show Host – This Monologue – Music Video of the Month

What do craft beer, tacos al pastor & tequila have in common besides being on hell of a great combination? They can all be seen being gleefully enjoyed by Toronto powerpop trio Talk Show Host in their new music video for their latest single, This Monologue

This Monologue was released as a standalone single following up their previous popular release I Hate Men (I Hate All Men) which pushed the envelope with its edginess; ruffling feathers and stirring controversy amongst laughable men’s rights activist groups.

I Hate Men (I Hate All Men) is satirical in its lyrical verses; Imagine the songwriting of Sean Bonnette made to be radio-friendly and being played in the style of Blink-182. This Monologue demonstrates the bands’ ability to move a bit further toward alternative-rock/pop style verse writing a bit more in this track than in previous material. Utilizing a quintessential pop-punk hook & chorus and complete with an actual monologue this video is a must-see.

“‘This Monologue’ is about the annoying commentary track in your head that spends a good portion of every day telling you, in excruciating detail, about all the things you’ve done wrong, are currently doing wrong, and are about to do wrong,” – Chris, lead singer, guitar player & songwriter of the Toronto trio.

This is the first release in 2 years from the Toronto trio. This Monologue was released as a catchy standalone single to Wiretap Records on November 20th, 2020. Although this song radiates strong pandemic energy, it was actually written pre-outbreak before the world went to hell in a handbasket. The band decided to put the pandemic spin on visually with this music video.

The video chronicles lead singer Chris Veinot as he awakens from his slumber to the news of the pandemic, and then…even worse his television notifies him that he also needs to take care of himself with healthy habits. Reluctant and groaning our focal character prepares to get their sweat on by playing some serious wall ball.

Throughout the video, the band can be seen enjoying beer, soda, tequila, tacos, and all those delicious enjoyable treats we all crave so much yet begrudgingly do our best to moderate. This introspective song, although displaying some of the negative, lazy and gluttonous sides of the human condition, sends a positive message of perseverance and self-improvement.

More relevant than ever This Monologue encapsulates the reverie of a buzzing mind searching for the physical manifestation of purpose and worth. This song is breathing new life into the band as they prepare to release their first full-length album which is anticipated Spring 2021.
