May 2021 Part 1 – This Playlist Rotation

There’s never a shortage of awesome independent music to listen to which is exactly why our playlists are updated biweekly. We like to keep the music fresh and expose as many artists to you as possible. We’ve decided to add a new segment outlining some of the bands found on both this rotation of the Indie Attic & The Grunge Garage.

Indigo de Souza

The 2019 album “I Love my Mom” is an indie fan must-have. Using a lot of cascading sleepy sounds over loud bass and vibrant lyrical melodies in songs like “Take off Your Pants” to flowing lo-fi rap-inspired songs like “Nomoah” this artist is dynamic in approach to music. Indigo de Souza is scheduled to play The Gray Eagle in Asheville North Carolina August 27th, tickets are on sale now.

Desperate Electric

Montana-based soul-duo dropped a fantastic music video last month for their song “Vacation”; we couldn’t help but choose it as our music video of the month, seriously, check that out! Desperate Electric brings all the chill vibes one could ask for with songs like “Still Not Giving You Up”. Desperate Electric offers us dynamic soul sounds atypical to the DIY experience.

The Break Lights

The singer of this band has to have one of the most unique voices of all time, when he lets it rip on songs such as Holiest Ghost you can easily see what sets this band apart from the rest. The Break Lights are an emerging 5-piece alternative band based out of NJ with a growing discography dating back to 2014.

The Dark Horse Collective

Proudly bending genres this Chicago, Illinois-based 3 piece released their self-titled EP at the start of this year. They’re also totally willing to write a song for your child’s b-day too so that’s pretty cool. The range in their self-titled is vast and has something for most alternative, metal-based music lovers.

Yawny Yelly Glowy Floaty

We would not be surprised if we saw this band again in some capacity again on Mad Indie Media. The quality production of these groovy songs is not something to be overlooked. Yawny Yelly Glowy Floaty also makes great music videos that are absolutely worth checking out.

Joyce From the Future

Joyce From the Future is another Montana based band with awesome chill, soul-dance-trance vibes. Their debut self titled EP came out in October of 2020 – these 4  quality produced synth-based tracks are perfect for the dance floor, chilling out on your own, and would undoubtedly make a great addition for your post-pandemic party playlist.

Teddy’s Atlas

Hailing from Guelph Ontario this alternative-punk band brings the energy with harsh punk vocals, heavy-handed drum beats, aggressive bass tones, palm-muted chugging riffs, and technical leads keeping their punk sound fresh and dynamic.

Velvet Kills

Velvet Kills is both a modern and urban endeavor with all its anxieties, addictions, destructiveness as well as exhilaration. The industrial sounds offered up by this artist are dark, gloomy, and energizing all at once. You’ll find their beats, driving, emotions raw and all of it wrapped up in peculiar darkness. Their abstract sound is complex and a combination of dim textures.
