Hoodie Allen Tour Finale in NYC

Brooklyn based Indie musician Hoodie Allen departs from his typical jovial hip-hop style raps with new single “Call Me Never“. The heartbreak inspired song is telling of the new pop-punk sound Hoodie appears to be cultivating for this next album. Hoodie’s new style sound heard in “Call Me Never” weaves between infectious pop melodies and juxtaposed with punk guitar riffs centered around emotionally delivered lyrics. Having opened for bands such as Fall Out Boy & Panic! At the Disco as well as collaborated with Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 it wouldn’t be out of the question for the new album to have a pop-punk centric sound.

This past weekend Hoodie Allen ended his “With or Without” you tour to a very loud and enthusiastic packed crowd at Irving Plaza and Mad Indie Media was elated to have been invited to cover the delightful evening. Eager fans lined up waiting for the show to begin; lines went straight down Irving Plaza and wrapped around E 16th St. When we arrived we were excited to see Hoodie Allen himself taking photos with fans before the show(Solid move, we see you Hoodie). The show also featured opening act Belaganas, from Phoenix, Arizona.

Belaganas easily got the crowd moving with their hype style hip-hop rapping. The band was full of energy and clearly ecstatic to be performing with the one and only Hoodie Allen. Belaganas brought the hype and the audience was all for it. Blending quick rhymes and elements of punk and hardcore into their set Belaganas delivered a captivating and emotionally charged performance.

During the set change there wasn’t much movement among the crowd; it seemed the majority of guests were afraid to lose their spots on the open floor at the ball-room style Irving Plaza. The energy of it being the final show of this tour with a rowdy NYC crowd, in ultimate homecoming fashion, was at an all-time high when Hoodie took the stage.

Performing with a full band Hoodie Allen gave fans a true sonically unique experience. Hoodie Allen displayed great diversity in his musical abilities throughout the set seamlessly flowing between various different styles. Hoodie played some newer music but kept it real for the attendees at Irving Plaza playing many feel-good crowd pleasers and fan favorites, such as “Champagne & Pools”, “Come Around”, “No Faith in Brooklyn” and “Wouldn’t That be Nice” to name a few.

Hoodie’s performance was vibrant and elusive, keeping fans guessing what would happen next. Aside from getting familiar with fans prior to the show Hoodie Allen also launched himself into the crowd on an inflatable boat giving all in attendance a super-popping insta story! Balloons rained down adding a special mystique to the already vibrant ambiance. Regardless of how you found Hoodie Allen or if he is completely new to you his live performances are truly a special occasion and we highly recommend seeing this artist live.

Hoodie Allen’s fun-loving yet vulnerably honest take on alternative rock is fueled by his long-time love of punk rock which is apparent when listening to his new single “Call Me Never”. “Call Me Never” is a must have for those end of Summer playlists.
