Results from the 103.7 WNNJ Battle of the Bands at the State Fair
|This past weekend 103.7 WNNJ the Tristate’s Rock Station hosted its Battle of the Bands contest at The state fair in Augusta NJ. The 103.7 WNNJ Battle of the Bands was an open call for all bands to enter the contest and members of the radio station reviewed the music and handpicked 10 lucky contestants. Those contestants then had their fans vote to invite the top 3 bands to perform at the State fair for their chance to win the grand prize of $1,000! Those 3 bands were Beyond the Daze, Flight Lights & World Gone Madd.
The fair which is a mainstay for the people of Sussex County took place from August 7th-14th with the battle of the Bands competition taking place this past Friday, the 13th. The Battle of the Bands gave its contestants a unique opportunity to not only perform their music for the panel judges but also have a chance to expose their music to the many fairgoers. The sound provided by the alt-rock radio station was pristine complete with an entire AV setup.
The panel of Judges included Music Publisher, Author, & Guitar Manufacturer, Don Oriolo of Oriolo Guitars, AL Chez, touring musician and long time ensemble Trumpet on CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman and Cat (Karaoke Cat) Chez, of Home Shopping Network. Oriolo, the former voice of Felix the Cat, briefly demonstrated his voice acting skills when greeting the audience.
Third Place – Beyond the Daze
The group from Sussex county NJ set the bar high with a powerful first performance of the night and placed 3rd winning a $250 dollar prize. Their set was high energy and filled with flashy theatrics including a stage dive.
Beyond the Daze will be returning to the Sussex County Fairgrounds Friday, August 20th to play Pupstock 2021 a benefit show for Father John’s Animal House.
Second Place – World Gone Madd
World Gone Madd is an original rock band playing in the styles of blues-rock as well as classic rock. The hard rock band has kept their promise and donated their $500 dollar prize to a friend who is recovering from recently suffering a stroke.
World Gone Madd will be playing this Sunday, August 22nd at Waywayanda music on the farm in New Hampton NY and will be playing the Greeks in Newton next month on September 3rd.
First Place – Flight Lights
A band born during the pandemic, despite only being formed a year ago, the newcomers landed 1st place and the grand prize of $1,000 dollars with their jam band tendencies, building bridges and erupting solos.
Paying homage to both The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Bands with covers thrown in amongst original music the north jersey area band took home gold. Flight Lights will be returning to Claremont Distilery in Fairfield NJ on September 2nd.
Hats off to the bands, the judges, and 103.7 WNNJ for hosting another 103.7 WNNJ Battle of the Bands. 103.7 WNNJ is an alternative rock station broadcasting to Sussex County NJ & Pike COunty PA. The panelist had the difficult task of choosing between these 3 finalists, as tough of a call as this may have been we think they made the right choice.
