Tsunami Bomb Interview

Tsunami Bomb, the California-based punk band recently stopped in Colorado for a weekender visiting Vultures in Colorado Springs as well as Rocky Mountain Tentacle Fest in Denver.

Being a staple in the punk rock scene since the late 90’s Tsunami Bomb has continually proven they plenty more to give. Known for their high-energy performances, infectious melodies, and socially conscious lyrics, the band has seen multiple evolutions in sound, direction and  line-up over the years.

Formed in 1998 by founding members, bassist Dominic Davi, keyboardist/vocalist Oobliette Sparks and  drummer Gabe Lindeman, Tsunami Bomb has garnered a dedicated following in the punk scene.

Later joined by vocalist Kate Jacobi and guitarist  Andrew Pohl, Tsunami Bomb, a member of the Alternative Tentacles Record Label roster, are experiencing a resurgence pushing their music forward with shows, charity songs, and new music expected soon.

Alternative Tentacles, the Californian based record label owned by Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys. Alternative Tentacles is known for supporting politically conscious and uncompromising punk acts, some of whom performed at Rock Mountain Tentacle fest at Levitt Pavillion in Denver Colorado.

We were fortunate enough to sit down and chat with Tsunami Bomb ahead of their show at Vultures in Colorado Springs on August 29th.

Known for their high-energy live shows and catchy, anthemic songs that resonated with fans across the globe. Tsunami Bomb’s sound is rooted in classic punk rock, but that doesnt stop the band from having a little fun; incorporating melodic hooks with pop-punk influences, making their music both aggressive, yet fun.

The band’s lyrics often tackle themes of personal struggle, social justice, and empowerment, reflecting the DIY ethos of punk while maintaining a sense of optimism and defiance.

Tsunami Bomb’s commitment to DIY has led to some interesting moments in the bands history, such as organizing their own shows in unconventional venues like skate parks and warehouses. These experiences have shaped the band’s identity, reinforcing their belief in the importance of community, as well as independence.

In 2019, the band released The Spine That Binds, their first album in over a decade, under the Alternative Tentacles label. The album was a bold statement, showcasing the band’s growth after a lengthy hiatus, proving that Tsunami Bomb was far from finished.

Tsunami Bomb  plans to release an EP in 2024; while details about the new songs are still under wraps, the band has hinted that the upcoming EP will explore new  territory while still retaining the core elements that have defined their sound.

As they continue to evolve, Tsunami Bomb remains one of the most exciting and authentic punk bands in the scene today. Their partnership with Alternative Tentacles has reinvigorated their career, allowing them to release new music and reach new audiences while staying true to their DIY roots.
