Here’s a few bands and artists making waves; this list includes music released over the last few months.

Marsoupial

Marsoupial has been making waves in the northern NJ/NYC scene for years with their unique blend of technical genres.

Known for effortlessly combining elements of funk, Math-rock, classic rock and electronic music, Marsoupial offers an intricately vibrant and eclectic sound that sets them apart in the music scene.

Their latest release, “Live at Brooklyn Bowl,” captures the technical ability of the band as well as the uncanny energy of their live performances. The album which of course was recorded live at the renowned Brooklyn Bowl, a venue celebrated for its excellent acoustics, give listeners a great expectation of what to expect live.

The band performed alongside Dodongo and Turtle Logic as part of the Brooklyn Bowl Jam Jar Series, which took place on May 16, 2024. This event highlighted not only Marsoupial’s talent but also featured collaborations that added depth and variety to the performance.

The Azures

The Azures, a psychedelic blues band hailing from the Jersey Shore, have recently released their self-titled debut album. 

Offering their own unique blend of stark ’60s jazz influences and ’90s alternative rock vibes, the band features vocalist Gia Rose, drummer Eric Brody, guitarist Ashton Millman, and bassist Robbie Coss.

Their debut album has been well-received, with the single “Look Alive” being highlighted as the Makin Waves Song of the Week. 

This track, featuring guest pianist Jacob Jauregui, has been described as a meaningful jazz-adelic ballad that reflects on the persistence of human spirit in the face of adversity  . 

The album also includes “Lust of the Night,” which won the 2023 Makin Waves Song of the Year.

Tezca

Tezca, a dynamic band from Denver, has been gaining attention with their eclectic mix of rock, metal, and other genres. 

Their sound is characterized by catchy melodies and powerful, incisive elements that makes their music stand out amongst the scene.

Their latest release, “Mountain Ghosts,” showcases their ability to blend thematic and atmospheric sounds with intense and jarring musical elements.

Same Dude

Kathleen Elle
