New & Newish Music from New Jersey
A lot of good music has been coming out of the New Jersey music scene as of late. Bands such as Joe Billy, Dscry, Nematode and a few others. I’m no meteorologist but i do believe there is a BandCamp Friday coming up on April 5th and all of the artists featured in this post are great options to support on BandCamp Friday or otherwise.

Nematode
Nematode is a psychedelic pop band from New Jersey who have reinvented themselves more times before their debut EP than most bands do in a life time. Turning setbacks into success the band has found their sound and vision in their 2022 EP release “Pipeline”. Continuing to create music with their uniquely found smooth psychedelic sound the band has put out their most recent EP release “Chum”.
Joe Biondi
Garnering a reputation for his unique blend of alt-rock, dream-pop and post punk, Joe Biondi has honed his skills as a musician which is apparent in his latest single release “If I Died Young”. Drawing influence from bands such as the Cure, Blink-182 and Beach House Joe Biondi posses a natural melody writing ability which shines through in his work with catchy beats, haunting lyrics, unique musical phrasing and intricate guitar work.
Dscry
The latest single from New Jersey’s DSCRY, “Half of Me” is a refreshing indie-pop/rock bopper. The lively guitar line hooks the listener in with an upbeat riff that’s nearly impossible to NOT bob your head to. The folk-bedded progressive harmonies of this new single captivate the listener into DSCRY’s unique and lively story telling vibe.
Joe Billy
Hitting us with a deluxe version of his 2023 album “Fissure” New Jersey’s own Joe Billy provides listeners with an angsty introspective soundtrack to any existential crisis. The deluxe album features a demo version of each song as well as the previously released full band album version songs. It’s nice to get a look at the barebones elements of these songs as well as the full final and intricate versions side by side. The NJ based folk-punk guitarist and lyricist, Joe Billy offers intelligent lyricism, energetic and upbeat songs, and as always, his passionate authenticity.
Chase Gray
Another really chill song from a different New Jersey based artist is “Enjoy the Ride” from Chase Gray. This relaxing single urges the listener to do just that, sit back, relax, come enjoy the ride. This track reminds us all to take a step back and chill out, a reminder we all need from time to time.
Over the Counter
Over the Counter is a band from New Jersey who has recently released a single entitled “Angel in Distress” released in March 2024. This appears to be a follow up to a single released in 2022. The band unfortunately were victims of cyber attacks having theirInstagram account hacked in 2023. Show them some love and give em a follow.
