Crazy and the Brains – PunkRocker – Music Video of the Month
|Crazy and the Brians.. Brians… no brains, yeah brains – I’m not crazy you are.
Crazy and the Brains have been putting their unique spin on punk since prior to their 2013 release Let Me Go. The xylophone gives the band a badass and whimsical feel to their energetic and upbeat songs. Crazy and the Brains dragged Shibby Pictures up into the cold and unforgiving city of Jersey City, New Jersey (home to the greatest radio station in the world, WFMU) to film what would become this vivid masterpiece. Shibby pictures is known for their creative talents specifically in the creation of music videos; having done work for bands such as Apes of the State, Matt Pless, Local News Legend, and Days N Daze.
Crazy and the Brains pay homage to Teddybears & Iggy Pop in their own take on Punkrocker a song which has been covered by many punk bands including Amiee Echo, frontwoman of Human Waste. Crazy and the Brians put their infectious twist on this classic and the result is astounding.
The video opens up on a shot of the singer being beaten by 2 masked assailants spliced over aerial shots of Jersey City. The video makes many callbacks to the original including evasion style driving while making it their own. There is a really sweet aerial shot of a jet-black car doing donuts in a parking lot that fits the cinematic nature of this video perfectly, plus whoever is driving is just absolutely sending it.
Crazy and the Brains are a Xylophone Garage punk band from Jersey City, New Jersey. If you missed the chance to see them live this month at The Lounge at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania fret not, Crazy and the Brains will also be going on a short tour in 2022. The band will be hitting Philly, Pittsburg, Manchester, New Hampshire, and Providence, Rhode Island.
