River Nelson – New View – Musician Spotlight

Are you looking for a feel-good song? A banger of a track with a catchy hook and some serious bass? Are you looking for some uplifting vibes? Then let me tell you about River Nelson.

River Nelson is a rapper/singer, songwriter, and producer from LA who is currently signed to Arista Records. Arista Records was founded in 1974(along with Columbia, RCA, and Epic). River has released 5 albums since 2009 and the 5th(Like the Sun Didn’t Sink) was just released in October of 2021.

River’s first 4 albums were often praised for being able to mix catchy hooks, soulful bass, and brutally honest, yet, uplifting messages. So, how does his first single(New View) of his new album hold up in comparison to his earlier releases? 

Spoiler: it tears the roof off.

I went into this pretty blind. I didn’t do any research on RN before listening. I just wanted to hear the track and let my mind wander. From the second I hit “play”, I was hooked on that bass groove. Then the drums kick in. Good LAWD this is catchy. It’s a total head bopper. 

RN comes in with those rhymes(and what tasty rhymes they are!!). At this point, I’m not sure what to do. Do I dance like a moron to this wonderful beat or do I try to concentrate on the serious poetry that is being served to me fresh and hot like cinnabons right out of the oven?

Problem solved: I’ll listen to it twice.

“I made it up the rugged mountain and now I’m on a new cliff. I can’t believe how beautiful the view is”. Oh yes. I think we all know that feeling. When you finally pull yourself out of the mud and decide to start climbing because when you’re rock bottom the only way to go is up.

This song is very refreshing. The first thing I wanted to do when I heard this jam was run out to my car, roll down the windows, and crank up my stereo as I cruise around some back roads. Then I realized it was January and only 2 degrees out. As soon as it gets warm though, ITS ON.

It is so nice to hear RN speak about rising above it all. RN has climbed some serious mountains. He has overlooked some high cliffs and seen some beautiful views…but he isn’t done yet. There are still more beautiful views for him to see and he wants you to know that YOU can see these beautiful views as well. All you have to do is start climbing.
