Relate: An Interview with Denver’s Post Pop Punk Band

We had the chance to sit down with some members of Relate, Duncan (vocals), Tom (guitar), and Diego (drums). Relate is self-described as a post pop-punk band from Denver, Colorado.

This interview happened a few months back at Volt of Vultures, a special event celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the beloved venue and dive bar, Vultures.

While we did run into some camera issues during the interview, we didn’t want to keep this conversation from you. So, we’re sharing it as an audio-only video — because some stories are just too good to miss!

Relate has a long standing connection to Vultures. The band shared their gratitude and how Vultures was the second place to ever book them when they first started out. That moment made an impact that’s stuck with the band ever since.

In a post from Relate about the Volt of Vultures they mentioned their first performance at the venue and said “at the end of the night Aspen thanked us for playing and told us that they really loved our band. She asked us to keep coming back and believed in our band before we ever released any music. It’s been incredible to witness and be a part of the community that vultures has built in Colorado Springs over the last three years. it’s our favorite venue to play and we’re honored to be included in their 3 year anniversary”

As for the Relate’s latest release, Sludge, don’t let the title fool you — this track is far from sludge metal. We had the chance to discuss the song during our interview.

Sludge stands out as a rare track written by drummer Diego, which is always interesting to hear in a band dynamic. It’s a great example of the collaborative energy that defines Relate’s sound.
