Not Ned – Every Cloud… -Musician Spotlight

Not Ned, Manchester United Kingdom’s hometown heroes recently released their debut album “Every Cloud…” a powerhouse packed full of exciting gritty indie-punk anthems reminiscent of old school Green Day, Fear, Circle Jerks and Social Distortion with a unique sense of working-class sentimentality. Not Ned frequents the bar scene around Manchester regularly playing at various popular pubs & alehouses. Their honest lyricism and straightforward songwriting paired with high energy live performances are admired by their fans around the bar scene in Manchester.

The story of Not Ned begins with its formation way back in 2008 at a local pub in Denton, Manchester. singer & guitarist Steven Lee & drummer & vocalist Paul Taff Macey worked together at Nelstrops Flour Mill in Stockport, Manchester. They decided to team up, find their sound, write some songs and began practicing their live set at Silver Lining Studios. Contrary to the typical 3-piece band adding members overtime, Not Ned began with 5 members but over the years due to life’s many commitments and changes in their sound Not Ned now operates as a three-piece with Chris Tollett on bass.

After regularly playing at their local pub Not Ned gained the attention of a promotion company and signed a promotion deal with MCR Music which gave them the opportunity to play in new and exciting bars and venues. This deal lead to many intriguing opportunities including headlining “Academy 3” and winning a contest to play the Whatfest Musical Festival which saw over 15,000 attendees. After a hiatus to pursue side projects and the various tasks this life calls for Not Ned has reunited in full force; headlining New Mills One World Festival in July 2019, playing Salford Winter Festival, and the Glossop Christmas Celebration, as well as having numerous local appearances pre-pandemic.

Every Cloud… was recorded at Silver Lining Studios by engineer Owen Alec Ashworth and was released back in March of this year.  We’ve added Not Ned’s music video for their song “Muck Around” as our music video of the month.
