Bill Murray – Half Decent – Groundhog Day

Bill Murray is the single from Oxford, UK native rapper and producer, Half Decent’s, new album, Groundhog Day.  The track follows Half Decent’s life, where he feels like he’s stuck in the same day, much like Bill Murray in the beloved film, Groundhog Day.  The production on Bill Murray is crisp and quality professional work.  There is a cool choice of a mixture of vocal chops and piano that is not seen as much in modern rap.  

Although the subject matter of the song is more about being frustrated, Bill Murray is really fun to listen to.  The lyrics are easy to pick up on, so it’s fun to sing along to.  The Groundhog Day reference is also very clever.  Half Decent could have easily made a really depressing song about his emotions but chose to say it in a clever way that ties back to a story that everyone knows.  

Bill Murray is a distinguished and unusual track; it’s definitely something fans of smooth, flowing, rhytmic rap can appreciate; if you’re a fan of hardcore rap or SoundCloud rap, this release may not be your thing.  Half Decent is dynamic in his lyrical content, making distraught, frustrated emotions into something comical while still conveying a message in a serious tone.  Overall the single, Bill Murray is an enticing track off Half Decent’s album, Groundhog Day which had us curious about the rest of the album. 

Half Decent has great production skills and comes at it from a collaborative and engaging angle atypical to some modern music releasing over a dozen mixtapes, EPs, remixes & collaborations. Opening up for the likes of MF Doom and most recently performing to an energetic crowd at Truck Festival and Common People  If you’re looking for something fun that also was made with a lot of emotion, Half Decent is the guy for you.
