Bandcamp Friday: Hurricane Helene Relief

Hey ya’ll we typically do a series on bandcamp friday and highlight who we have been listening to lately. This time we are focusing on bands in the Asheville North Carolina scene who may have been impacted by Hurricane Helene.

North Carolina Asheville

As a community musicians should always stick together and at this present moment The Asheville scene is in our hearts. Please consider purchasing music from the bands on this list. Always $pend your bandcamp friday$ wisely and consider supporting those who need the help right now.

Tina & Her Pony

The folk duo formed in 2009 by Tina Collins created a truly unique blend of Appalachian inspired indie-folk.

Tina & Her Pony have built a loyal fan base, in part due to their active involvement in the LGBTQ+ community, as seen through benefit performances for causes like QORDS (Queer Oriented Radical Days of Summer).

Tina & Her Pony are currently on tour with their next few gigs being in the south west in Bizbee AZ on 10/5 & 10/6 in Silver City NM.

Tina & Her Pony will return to the east to finish out this tour with shows in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and of course North Carolina, playing some select shows with a full band.

Dr. Bacon

The 7 piece bluegrass outfit from Asheville North Carolina, Dr. Bacon definitely knows how to lay down some tasty sounds.

While it is his oldest music available on Bandcamp, I am a fan of his 2015 EP The Kreature, it was written and recorded deep in the mountains of North Carolina and is a celebration of living life to the fullest.

Dr. Bacon will be playing the Graveyard Getdown, a music festival/haunt at the gillrock downs in Summerfield NC the weekend of October 18th.

Dr. Bacon will also be doing a weekend in November at The Palm Room in Wrightsville Beach, NC with Brown Dirt Cowboys on 11/8 and with Andrew Thelston on 11/9.

Dr. Bacon asks that you help someone close to them during this difficult time please donate to this gofundme campaign.

Yawni

Putting out a full length album in early 2024 Yawni crafts their distinct blend of fringe style pop music with a lofi twist.

Regularly playing venues in the Asheville scene such as Eulogy, Yawni is an integral member of the Asheville music scene.

Yawni will embark on tour tomorrow, kicking things off with a hometown show in Asheville. This tour will include Tennessee, Ohio, the midwest and the northeast.

Displaying their connection to the community with their recent release The 5-track EP entitled TEETH released on October 1st 2024.

All proceeds from sales of their recent release, TEETH, will go to benefit Hurricane Helene disaster relief funds.

Crooked Ghost

The avant-goth songbird from Asheville, Crooked Ghost creates haunting tunes with a touch of southern twang.

A queer artist whose most recent bandcamp release is Fiji Mermaid, a full length album released in August of 2023.

The 12 track album features an exclusive bandcamp only track.

Crooked Ghost is the brainchild of Ray Lark who self wrote and produced the album on vocals, autoharp, keys and percussion.

Poor excuse

The high energy hard-core punk band based in Asheville Poor Excuse.

We didn’t find a ton about them online But we love punk.

If you make punk hit us up, we like that shit.

If ya got one, burn it.

Head over to Bandcamp yourself, you can search tags by location and use “Asheville, NC” to see all the bands local to that area that may need support in this tough time. Make sure to check socials and see what bands are lending a helping hand while the region is suffering from a catastrophic natural disaster. Asheville and the people of the Blue Ridge Mountains will need as much support as it can get and we hope that as a community we can come together to help the region recover.
