Dogbeach | Jersey Shore Indie-rock

We spoke with Bob Maschio of Dogbeach the North Wildwood based indie-rock band. We discussed their upcoming album, recent singles, and what’s coming next for the Jersey Shore based, Dogbeach.

Dogbeach began as a solo project in early 2022. Founded by Bob Maschio Dogbeach and later joined by Juliani Bonilla Dogbeach has been releasing music since August 2022. Dogbeach has rotating members for live performances who play drums and bass as well as a variety of instruments which are showcased in the band’s recordings. On a vast majority of the band’s recordings, Maschio is playing all instruments.

The collective vibe of Dogbeach led by primary songwriter Maschio is something that shines through in their music. Grabbing the name from a relaxing pastime of walking his dog on the beach, as one does down the shore, Dogbeach was born. And let’s face it, band names that include “dog” are just better.

Their first EP was a 5 track self-titled release with a fun garage rock vibe with at times danceable indie-rock interludes filled with undertones of post-hardcore. The band has stood busy since releasing their self titled album including releasing multiple singles, 2 additional albums, Playa del Perro & The Emotional Ocean as well as a music video for their track Hanging from the Ceiling, and the live tape.

With seemingly endless material to draw from Maschio and Dogbeach are poised to release an additional album this fall. The band also has many live videos on their youtube account and the content keeps on coming with multiple lyric videos included in the channel.

Drawing influence from a variety of bands such as Motion City Soundtrack, Between the Buried and Me, Frank Zappa & Streetlight Manifesto, Dogbeach crafts their own unique blend of alt-rock.

As the primary songwriter Maschio brings completed songs to the table; but may have others take part in adding their spin to the recording process. “The process is to write it and then if someone else is recording a track, let them have their interpretation of it without dramatically changing the intended feel.” says Maschio. And true to the statement Dogbeach has a variety of music each with its own creative take on an original work of music.

The band has played many stages around NJ/PA/NY including Arlene’s Grocery in NYC, LAUNCH Music Conference in Lancaster PA and the Elephant Talk Indie Music Festival 2023. Among a variety of house shows Dogbeach has played to diverse crowds in the northeast.

This year the band released a live tape and has plans for some additional upcoming releases. The band will release a new single off the upcoming album on 7/13 entitled Anxiety Wave. with September slated as a potential release time for the upcoming album. The name for the new album has not been released yet but were hoping for a clever dog pun.

The future of Dogbeach is a bit uncertain as far as touring goes. The band hopes to continue to play regionally until it makes sense to tour. With sights on playing Kung Fu Necktie & Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia Pennsylvania the band will remain active in the  Philly, South Jersey, and NYC scene.

Catch Dogbeach at a show near you soon. The band will be playing at Core Brewery in Clayton, NJ on July 13 with Second Half Comeback; as well as Suftopia, an on the beach party in WIldwood on July 20th.

The band also has some dates later this summer including a memorial show, Connorfest on August 17th in South River, NJ and will be heading down to Newark, Delaware on August 22nd to Rainbow Records with Spring State and Grandeur.
